The traditional last event in the Festival of Fungi calendar is the intellectually and literally nourishing lunch and seminar. The lunch was hosted at the always accommodating Northern Republic in Euroa, with an opening speech by SRCMN president Helen McKernan. Attendees were spoiled to the double treat of Alison Pouliot’s fungi based tales from abroad, as well as a delicious fungi based lunch. Stories of competitive mushroom foraging in Europe and the intricacies of land management education in deeply rural Australia kept attendees captivated while they enjoyed the wonderful food and drink on offer.
Alison, always generous with her time, made a point of having one on one chats to everyone who attended. Sharing her impressive knowledge, but also employing her even more impressive people skills to learn and ask deep questions of her fellow fungi enthusiasts, Alison demonstrated why she’s the best in her field. A constant search for knowledge and connection sets Alison apart from other experts in the field, and keep us inviting her back year after year.
Thanks to everyone who attended, to Northern Republic and Lauren Anders for hosting, to Alison for again sharing more insights into the cryptic world of fungi, and to the SRCMN committee for organising another great festival.
